Vasco businessman alleges bank systematically duped him of Rs 70 lakh

After Police fail to act into the matter, CBI have commenced probe

VASCO
A Vasco-based businessman who is into ship breaking and ship repairs, accused the Vasco branch of Union Bank of India (UBI) of cheating his company to the tune of Rs 70 lakh, adding that CBI is probing the matter after Vasco police did not act on his complaints.
Addressing a news conference in his office at Vasco, Mahesh Toshniwal informed that the UBI had cheated him of Rs 70 lakhs with 28 cheques in their possession over a one-year period from 2015 to 2016.
"I had filed a complaint with Vasco police and had followed up several times, but a case was not registered and hence, I approached the CBI about three months ago and they are now investigating the matter," said Toshniwal.
Toshniwal also claims to have petitioned the president, prime minister, revenue secretary and CBI director for intervention. "I suspect that many more people have lost huge money in the bank scam between 2015 and 2016."
Toshniwal produced various bank statements and copies of cheques allegedly used by bank officials to withdraw huge amounts from his current account, cash credit account and home loan account.
"They have withdrawn Rs 19 lakh from my current account by cheques which were with them. These cheques did not have my signature nor the company's rubber stamp on the back of these cheques," alleged Toshniwal.
Toshniwal further claimed that a branch manager, now transferred elsewhere, had used one of his cheques to withdraw money. "Bank statements revealed that most money was withdrawn late evening, while banks close the cash counter at 3 pm and I had received no transaction messages on my cell phone for a year," he claimed.
"The manager gave me fake statements and withdrew up to Rs 60 lakh from my account using my cheques. He also transferred huge money from my account to other accounts that are not known to me and till date the money has not been reversed.
"The manager made sure that all my payments to my vendors were cleared and hence, I never felt the need to cross-check my account. I am always on the move and the manager made sure I never received messages of insufficient money in my account," added Toshniwal.
"When I realised the fraud, I complained to the bank, but did not get any cooperation from the manager. Following his transfer, the new manager was also uncooperative and tried to declare my account as NPA, but I refused to budge and despite my police complaint, I got no cooperation from the police."
Toshniwal further alleged that the new manager had transferred Rs 10 lakh from his account to another person without any instructions not by cheque, but through debit vouchers.
