GPCC Vice President Sankalp Amonkar on Friday warned that people from all 25 wards of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) would be forced to dump their garbage outside Urban Development Minister Milind Naik’s house if he failed to resolve the workers strike by Monday and clear the overflowing garbage.
Blaming Naik for the ongoing strike, Amonkar told reporters are a news conference that the BJP had been organising cleanliness drives on Sundays and post pictures on social media.
“They must now come in real action and clear the garbage . The MMC is headed by DMA and hence Naik should have resolved the issue.”
“Excess MMC funds under 14th Finance have been transferred to GSUDA, which is also headed by Naik. He claims MMC is an autonomous body but now the municipalities do not have a council and the government-appointed administrator and chief officers are managing the municipalities, leaving the onus of resolving the issues with the government and urban development department,” said Amonkar.
“The MMC funds have been transferred to the GSUDA at a time when workers are struggling for salaries. The three Mormugao BJP MLAs, which include two ministers, have not yet met the striking workers. Naik’s house is just 3 kms away from the MMC office and despite heading the DMA, he has not met them to resolve their issues,” said Amonkar.
“We warn Naik that if these issues are not resolved by Monday, people from all 25 wards will dump their garbage outside his house,” said Amonkar.
