A 49-year-old man from Velguem in Sattari taluka has died under suspicious circumstances, prompting Valpoi police to initiate a detailed investigation in the matter.
According to reports, the deceased, Maruti Mahadev Mayekar, succumbed while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC) Hospital.
Mayekar, who was described as a socially active and well-known individual, is suspected to have consumed some unknown substance and his health deteriorated rapidly, prompting family members to rush him to Goa Medical College for emergency treatment.
Medical experts provided intensive care and treatment; however, despite their efforts, his condition failed to improve, and he eventually passed away during treatment.
Valpoi Police registered a case of unnatural death and initiated a detailed investigation.
A post-mortem examination was conducted, and the viscera and internal organs have been preserved and sent for chemical analysis.
Police are also recording statements from family members and relatives while reconstructing the events leading up to the incident. Possible factors such as personal difficulties, family-related issues, financial stress, or any other circumstances are being examined as part of the investigation.
