Velingkar's anticipatory bail plea order at 5pm

Velingkar's anticipatory bail plea order at 5pm

PANAJI: The North Goa District Court will deliver its verdict on former RSS Goa Chief Subhash Velingkar's anticipatory bail plea to 5pm today, after concluding extensive hearing a while ago.

Four intervention petitions were filed opposing the plea when the matter was taken up for hearing this morning.

Velingkar had filed for pre-arrest bail after evading two notices by Bicholim police to appear for investigation over his offensive comments on St Francis Xavier.

Velingkar's counsel argued that his client will appear for questioning provided he is not arrested, stating the police are under public pressure to take his custody.

The counsel also stated that no offense is made out as Velingkar only sought DNA test. "Confirming identity will be useful for all including St Francis Xavier devotees," he said.

The State, on the other hand opposed the plea citing he ignored two notices. "His malicious act caused law and order tension in Goa," the public prosecutor argued.

The verdict is expected by 5pm.
