The 95th death anniversary of Venerable Agnelo de Souza will be celebrated in Pilar on November 19, with the Novena set to begin on November 10.The main theme of the celebration is “Venerable Agnelo, our model to follow Jesus”. Bishop of Sindhudurg Alwyn Barreto will preside over the Solemn Mass on November 19 at 9.30 am. The Masses will be celebrated at 5.30 am, 6.45 am, 8 am, 11.30 am, 4 pm, 5.15 pm and 6.15 pm (English).
Venerable Agnelo de Souza (1869-1927), a priest son of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman and a saintly member of the Society of Pilar, was born in Anjuna on January 21, 1869, and his canonisation process is going on in Rome.
The Novena will be held from November 10-18. Each day of the Novena is dedicated to praying for a specific purpose: November 10 (Youth), November 11 (Priests and Religious), November 12 (Environment), November 13 (Laity), November 14 (Children and Vocation), November 15 (Mission), November 16 (Family); November 17 (Civil Leaders) and November 18 (Sick).
There will be a Night Vigil on November 17 from 9.30 pm to 5 am the next day. Masses in other languages will also be held on the following days: Malayalam Mass (November 13 at 12.30 pm), Hindi Mass (November 13 at 9.30 am) and Tamil Mass (November 13 at 11.30 am).
Special Mass for the sick will be held on November 18 at 4 pm. Every Mass will be followed by a Novena prayer and prayer over the sick. Priests will be available for confessions and counselling. All Masses will be streamed on YouTube@societyofpilarindia and telecasted on Prudent TV, GCTV, CCRTV and other channels.
As in the past, the flow of vehicular traffic will be one way. All vehicles will enter the Pilar Hillock from the Neura road and exit through the regular Pilar Hillock road. Shuttle services will be available at the foot of the Pilar Hillock for those commuting by bus. For smooth vehicular movement, parking arrangements are made behind the Pilar Seminary.
