Aam Aadmi Party Benaulim candidate Captain Venzy Viegas on Tuesday stated that BJP government funds have been flowing to TMC’s Churchill Alemao to run for Benaulim.
Viegas asserted that since several years, the BJP has not been able to win the Benaulim constituency. Once Churchill wins the seat, he will join the BJP to help form a government. A strong anti-incumbency exists against the BJP, which is why the party has been funding Churchill.
Viegas said, “Churchill Alemao switches parties like a chameleon switches its colour. In a career spanning a bit more than three decades and a half, it is probably the tenth time he has changed parties. This time is no different. Once he wins the Benaulim seat, he will rejoin the BJP.”
“It is well known that despite being the chief of the NCP for five years, he has always supported the BJP. Even after the BJP won just 13 seats in the state election, which was a far cry from the expectations of state leaders, Churchill backed the BJP during floor tests. His support for the BJP coalition government did not go down well with the NCP, and the party passed a no-confidence motion against him,” he added.
He further said “In this election, I urge the people of Benaulim not to vote for Churchill again. Voting for him means supporting the BJP. He is a subordinate of the BJP. This time, vote for AAP.”
