Verna police on Thursday arrested a man from Verna for allegedly attempting to murder another person in a drunken attack at Nagoa, Verna.

Police said the incident occurred around 1.30 pm on November 6, when the accused, identified as Fredrick Rodrigues, reportedly went to the residence of complainant Aluzio Fernandes at Nagoa under the influence of alcohol.

Rodrigues allegedly began arguing when Fernandes refused to speak to him on account of his drunken state.

In a sudden fit of rage, the accused went into the kitchen, picked up a pair of scissors, and stabbed the complainant multiple times on the chest, back, and other parts of the body, causing grievous bleeding injuries.

The injured victim was rushed for medical treatment, while police swiftly arrested the accused. Verna police have registered an offence under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder.

The investigation is being conducted by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
