As encroachments in the passages, sale of CDs and waist belts, offices and food joints welcomed the TCP minister in the PDA vegetable market during the surprise inspection on Thursday evening, Sardesai directed the PDA officials to immediately crack a whip against the encroachments. “If the PDA does not act immediately, it will become like the New Market. There will be no difference between the PDA market and the New market. Chaos will be the order of the day if the disease of encroachments from Margao spread to Fatorda”, he told the media after the inspection.
Saying that the vegetable market alone owes to the SGPDA a whopping amount of Rs 3.80 crore, Sardesai said the stall owners have not paid Rs 1.62 lakh balance amount to the PDA.
Sardesai said the PDA is prepared to provide basic amenities of water and light for the vegetable vendors, but made it clear that the PDA will not tolerate any encroachments in the vegetable market.
SGPDA Member Secretary Ashok Kumar, Senior Town Planner James Mathew, Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai besides Municipal councillors also accompanied the minister for the surprise inspection.
