MARGAO

Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister Vijai Sardesai has threatened to transfer officials if they are found wanting in executing various developmental works running into crores of rupees as he has set deadlines on the completion of many a project in Fatorda constituency on Tuesday.

The TCP Minister also made a fervent plea to the citizens of Fatorda to bear the inconveniences and hardships arising out of the last phase of the ongoing development works in the constituency.

Briefing media after a review meeting with officials of various agencies including district Collector Tariq Thomas at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, Sardesai said the Rs 130 crore North main sewage line will be completely replaced by end of May 2019. “We have a slight problem at Mungul, where people have raised objections to the pumping stations. We will take the residents to Vasco to see for themselves the success of the pumping stations,” he said.

He said the Ambaji-Ravindra Bhavan Road will be complete in all respects by January 2019, saying that the road will have an elaborate provision for electric and other cables, which will not require road cutting in the future.

Saying that the traffic junctions in Fatorda, including the old market circle, Arlem circles and Bolshe circle will be reduced to size to ensure smooth movement of traffic, the TCP Minister said that traffic at all these junctions will be manned by traffic signals.

While saying that the Eastern bypass will be widened and illuminated in the coming months, Sardesai issued directions to the Margao Municipal Council to coordinate with the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) to expedite the parking projectat the old market circle. As far as the Margao multi-storeyed parking proposal is concerned, the TCP Minister has made it  categorically clear that the civic body should float a fresh tender to execute the parking project instead of persisting with the bidder.

Stressing on the need for civic sense amongst the citizens, the Minister said the authorities will come down heavily on motorists parking their vehicles on the widened roads. “The very purpose of road widening will be defeated if people park their vehicles on the road,” he said, while giving clear instructions to the DySP, Traffic Prabodh Shirwaikar to tow vehicles from the roads widened in Fatorda.

He unveiled plans to lay parallel pipelines along the roads in Fatorda constituency as part of the ongoing exercise of ushering in a planned development of Fatorda constituency.

“Development works amounting to over Rs 300 crore are either underway or are in the process of getting executed. This review meeting has been held to ensure coordination between various agencies,” he said, while threatening to transfer officials who do not execute the work within the set deadlines.

Fatorda CCTV project in the revival mode

MARGAO: Scrapped by outgoing South Goa District Collector, Anjali Sehrawat for want of codal formalities, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai’s dream CCTV project costing close to Rs 3 crore is in the process of being revived by new district Collector, Tariq Thomas.
While the Collector said the project may be taken up for execution by the Department of Information Technology (IT) after consulting former Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik’s successor and incumbent MP Vinay Tendulkar, the TCP Minister said the CCTV project may also be taken up under the Smart City project.
When the media asked Collector, Tariq Thomas to explain the status of the CCTV project after the TCP Minister said the project will be back on the tracks, the Collector pointed out that the Collectorate will ask the IT department to take up the execution of the CCTV project in Fatorda out of the MPLAD funds of the Rajya Sabha MP.
He said the modalities are being worked out and the new Rajya Sabha MP will also be consulted on the issue.
The TCP Minister, however, said the CCTV project may be taken up along with the Smart City project, adding that he is expecting sizeable funds for Fatorda under the Smart City project.
Sardesai’s ambitious CCTV project costing Rs 2.86 crore was scrapped by the outgoing district Collector Anjali Sehrawat after she stumbled on documents that the project was never tendered nor a tender floated after complying with the codal formalities.
In fact, the tender was scrapped by the outgoing Collector months after the TCP Minister had inaugurated the project near the Bolshe circle on Liberation Day last year.
