Vijai waiting in the wings to strike back

The relegation to the Opposition benches has seemingly not gone down well with

Sardesai, who incidentally had spent five years of the previous term of the assembly, dominating the space.

Currently in the ‘cooling-off’ period, the shrewd former Congressman is waiting in the wings to strike back, indicated by the alacrity with which he moved to sew alliance with the Shiv Sena which elbowed the BJP out of power in Maharashtra, in an attempt to replicate the feat in Goa.

The move, however, did not find favour with the Goa units of the Sena’s Maharashtra allies - the Congress and the NCP.

Sardesai, however, got a shot in the arm when earlier this month he retained hold of the civic body in Margao which encompasses his Fatorda constituency and the Margao seat represented by Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat.

His nominee won the chairmanship contest by a single vote, despite the civic body being under siege by an unseemly alliance between Kamat and Sardesai’s challenger in Fatorda and the front-runner for the BJP State presidentship, Damu Naik.
