Viola, supporters will soon embrace UGDP: Mickky

Moments after wife Viola quit from the post of president as well as from the primary membership of the Goa Vikas Party (GVP) on Thursday, Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco has said that Viola along with the sarpanchas and other supporters from Nuvem constituency will soon embrace the United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP).

Asserting that the GVP leadership decision to reject his offer to merge the party into the UGDP was on expected lines, Mickky said the GVP executive committee decision has no meaning when he along with wife Viola and supporters have already decided to join the UGDP.
“As discussed with the UGDP leadership, Viola along with the sarpanchas, panchas and other supporters will join the regional party later this month. GVP decision will have no bearing on my decision to join the UGDP,” Mickky said, adding that candidates shortlisted by him will join the UGDP within the next two months.
On the vexed issue of UGDP senior vice-president Radharao Gracias’ decision to oppose him politically in the coming election, Mickky said that he is confident that the UGDP will work out a solution in the days ahead. “I am confident that Radharao will not go against the UGDP. A solution will be worked out by the party leadership to the satisfaction of all. If Radharao says that he is supporting Vincent because he had supported him in the past, I am sure that the UGDP vice-president will remember that I too had supported his candidature against Churchill Alemao in Benaulim in the 1999 Assembly election,” he said.
Replying to a question, Mickky said he would quit from the membership of the GVP at the right time, but hastened to add that he would immediately start his work in Nuvem and other constituencies under the UGDP banner.

UGDP will invoke Constitution if Radharao doesn’t fall in line: Viegas
MARGAO: In an interesting development, United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) Secretary General Anacleto Viegas has said that the UGDP leadership would invoke the party Constitution in the event party senior vice-president Radharao Gracias does not fall in line and stop supporting NCP probable candidate, Vincent Rodrigues for the Nuvem seat.
“I am confident that all members of the party would welcome Mickky Pacheco into the fold. Not only Mickky, the party has opened its doors for all leaders, who had in the past left the organisation to join other parties,” he said.
When specifically asked to comment on the row over Radharao’s statement that he would support NCP probable candidate Vincent Rodrigues for the Nuvem seat, Anacleto said that a solution would soon be found out by the party leadership. “Only in an extreme situation, the party will invoke the Constitution to instill discipline in the organisation and will act if anyone is found acting against the interests of the party,” Anacleto asserted.
