Volvo bus involved in fatal Mishap on NH66; driver held in K'taka

MARGAO: Investigations by the Cuncolim police has revealed that an inter-state Volvo bus was involved in the road accident at Padi village on the NH66 on late Wednesday night, leaving two persons dead.

Cuncolim PI Diego Gracias said the bus was intercepted at Yellapur-Karnataka and the driver arrested in the hit and run case.

He said the accused driver of the Volvo bus, Rajesh Shivally, a resident of Sirvoi-Quepem has been arrested. PI Gracias said the driver drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Balli towards Barcem and upon reaching at Paddi, gave dash to the oncoming TVS Jupiter scooter, which was proceeding from Paddi towards Balli direction, as a result of which the rider namely Sandesh Gaonkar and pillion rider Dilip Velip, both residents of Paddi-Quepem, fell down and sustained injuries.

The police said the accused driver fled from the spot after the accident and failed to give medical aid to the injured persons and also failed to inform the Police, as a result the rider of the scooter succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at SGDH, Margao and the pillion rider was declared brought dead at PHC Balli by the on duty doctor.

The Cuncolim police has registered an offense under section 281, 106(1) of BNS & 134 (a)(b) of MV Act.
