Villagers from Chicalim voted for their choice of candidate at 11 polling stations spread over Chicalim area, while the villagers of Chicolna-Bogmalo cast their votes for their candidate at 7 polling booths.
In the morning, voting at Chicalim and Bogmalo was dull as due to rainfall, the villagers did not come out in large numbers to cast their votes.
However, the voting picked up in the later half of the day till the end of voting.
Of the total 7,812 voters from Chicalim, 5,343 franchised their votes, while in Chicolna-Bogmalo, 1329 out of 1715 voted.
Speaking to The Goan, Sanjay Naik of Chicalim, a first-time voter, said he felt proud as he finally got a chance to vote for the candidate of his choice.
“The scenario in Goa is changing with many non-Goans entering the fray and Goans should pull up their socks and stop the trend to protect our identity,” said Naik.
Another first time voter from Bogmalo, Rafael Rodrigues said: “Though the politicians said they are not supporting any candidate in Bogmalo, we have seen the elected representatives promoting their own candidates against the wishes of the villagers.”
When contacted, Satish Prabhu, Returning Officer and Mormugao Mamlatdar, said the elections were peaceful and free of complaints from the candidates and their supporters.
