MARGAO
Goa State Mahila Congress on Saturday launched an attack on former MP Francisco Sardinha, saying the 73-year old former MP should not have staked claim for the ticket as he was not seen around for party activities during the last five years.
The Mahila Congress said the Congress should follow what they have been talking on the 33 per cent reservation by giving the South Goa ticket to Pratima Coutinho.
Addressing the media, Roshni D’Silva, social media convenor, demanded to know how many times former MP Francisco Sardinha was seen on the ground last five years, saying it is sad that a 73-year old former MP, who was not seen on the ground, is staking claim for the party. “We have nothing against Sardinha. We respect him as an ex-MP, ex-CM and for doing great job for the party. But, he should now give up and make way for young people to come up in politics,” Roshni said.
She said the Mahila Congress party is only demanding the South Goa Lok Sabha seat for Pratima for her work in the last two years. “Pratima has not come up from somewhere. Her work is behind her. She was everywhere in the last two years. She participated in as many as 87 agitations in the last two years. The Congress leadership should follow what they are talking on the 33 per cent reservation for women,” she demanded.
State Mahila Congress General Secretary Diana Braganza also made a forceful plea to the Congress leadership to nominate Pratima for the South Goa Lok Sabha ticket, adding that Goans know Pratima well for her participation in the host of agitations over the last two years.
