In a major security lapse at Dabolim International Airport, wanted criminal Kashmir Singh escaped from the custody of the Airport police on Saturday just when the procedure for his arrest was underway.
The accused had come under the CISF’s scrutiny during the screening process when the central force discovered that he had an active lookout circular against him. The notice was related to a theft case and the Arms Act issued by the Punjab police. The CISF thereafter handed him over to the Airport police for further action.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Salim Shaikh informed that while attempting to board a Goa-Sharjah flight, the CISF verified the suspect’s credentials and subsequently handed him over to the Airport police, posted within the airport premises.
“During this period, the accused informed officials that he was not feeling well and requested to use the restroom. He made two trips to the restroom, but on his third visit, he escaped by jumping over the wall,” he said.
Despite efforts to chase him, the fugitive managed to escape from the busy place, soon after which the Goa police issued an alert across all police stations and public places, including border checkposts. The negligence led to the suspension of Head Constable Milind Raikar and Constable Mithun Naik even as the Dabolim airport police registered a case under Section 224 IPC (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) against the accused. A look out notice is also issued against him.
