Waste management: GWMC seeks bids for 5 garbage dumps

Legacy garbage dumps at five locales in Goa are sought to be scientifically managed at a whopping cost of nearly Rs 26 crore with the Goa Waste Management Corporation calling for bids.

The GWMC has invited bids for the remediation of waste from these five dump sites -- Taleigao, Mapusa, Pernem, Curchorem and Mormugao.

The tender floated suggests that the minimum quantity for remediation of the garbage dump shall be about 1.13 lakh cubic meters which is at these five sites within the jurisdiction of the Taleigao panchayat and the civic bodies of Mapusa, Pernem, Curchorem-Carora and Mormugao.

According to the conditions of the tender, the winning bidder will have to send the RDF (refuse derived fuel) recovered during remediation to cement industries, waste to energy plants and thermal power plants for co-incineration.
