MARGAO
Waste piled up at Colva beach on Wednesday, raising a stink as the contractor struggled to transport the waste to the plant for treatment.

While dry waste stacked in bags formed a mound, the wet garbage bins were found full to the brim.

Local villagers called the media to highlight the issue, pointing out that the situation had been ongoing for the last couple of days since the New Year. When 'The Goan' team visited the beach on Wednesday evening, workers were seen engaged at the site to handle the waste.

A worker informed that a vehicle had left the place with waste bags in the morning, pointing out that the waste was being transported to the plant for treatment. The worker said all efforts were being made to transport the waste away for treatment.

Locals, however, pointed out that the situation does not bode well for Colva, given that thousands of visitors, both domestic and foreign tourists, visit the world-class beach every day.
