Even as the meat traders in the SGPDA market complex have come under the scanner of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) over the question of waste disposal, all seemed not well in the PDA mega market, including the Osia commercial complex.
While waste water was found stagnating in the Osia commercial complex causing nuisance and posing a health hazard, questions are raised over the state of affairs in the PDA market sheds, for want of maintenance.
In fact, as the media descended at the PDA complex on Friday to ascertain the state of affairs, they came across stalls in the market sheds literally converted into kiosks. This has raised questions whether the stalls have been converted into wooden kiosks with permission from the SGPDA on the lines of the grocery stalls in the market shed adjoining the fish shed.
The market sheds seemed craving for attention as is evident by the fact that the passages in the vegetable market were found blocked with goods.
Meanwhile, water stagnation at the Osia commercial complex has raised questions why authorities including the Goa State Pollution Control Board and the Margao Municipal Council or the Health department have not cracked a whip for the nuisance and a health hazard in the vicinity.
“The GSPCB has been quick to issue closure notices to the meat stalls in the PDA market. Why has the pollution control board not taken cognizance of the ground reality and initiated action,” remarked a business establishment owner.
