At a time when the Public Works Department Minister, Sudin Dhavalikar has vowed to reduce water wastage to a mere five per cent on par with advanced countries such as Japan, the Minister’s views and ideas seemed to have not percolated down to department officials.
Otherwise, consider this. It’s now around a week when a water pipeline ruptured at a culvert at Madel “ metres away from the Old Market traffic circles. Thousands of liters of water might have gone waste in the water nullah, but the noise of water gushing out of the damaged pipeline passing under the culvert has not reached the PWD at Fatorda or atop the Monte Hill till date.
Residents of Madel had initially believed that the noise of water gushing out in the storm water nullah was that of the underground sewage water. But, when activist Savio Dias descended at the nullah, he was shocked to find that water was gushing out from a broken pipeline.
He tried to contact the PWD office, but in vain, even as thousands of liters of water has now gone waste, in the River Sal.
During his recent visit to Colva to lay the foundation stone for the underground sewage project, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar had said the State is working hard to reduce the water wastage to just five per cent on the lines of Japan.
