Water issue: Canconcars assured of ‘tanker-free’ months in April, May

CANACONA
Stating there is no dearth for water in Canacona with two dams, Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar assured Canconcars of ‘tanker-free’ months in April and May, as water supply works worth Rs 93 crore are underway in three phases.

Tawadkar was speaking after launching the work to replace the water-supply pipeline at Polem at an estimated cost of Rs 33 lakh on Monday.

Speaking further Tawadakar said, “Water problems have been resolved in Canacona municipality and water problems confronting residents at Loliem-Polem, Poinguinim, Khotigao and Gaondongrim in April and May will be resolved by water supply works worth Rs 93 crore underway in three phases.”

“Works worth Rs 38 crores are already approved and two more phases will take a little more time. Once the 5-MLD Gaunem dam is made functional, water will be diverted to Gaondongrim, Khotigao, Poinguinim and Loliem-Polem,” Tawadarkar informed.

“The replacement of a water-pipeline at Polem at an estimated cost of Rs 33 lakh aims to upgrade ageing infrastructure, prevent water contamination, and ensure a reliable and uninterrupted water supply for the community. With this, I think the water issue of this area will be resolved,” Tawadkar said.

“Canacona has no dearth for water with two dams and with a capacity to provide 12 hours of water supply to the entire taluka. People of certain areas in the taluka have water issues for only 2 months and we will ensure to make these areas ‘Tanker“free’ in the months to come.”

The event was attended by Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Nisha Chari, Panch Ajay Lolienkar, and other Panchayat members, and local residents.
