Benaulim-based water sport operator Pele Fernandes returned back ashore from a dolphin trip on Thursday, but with the carcass of a sea turtle.
Last month, Pele and his team had managed to rescue two sea turtles from the sea after they were found entangled to a ghost fishing net and plastic waste.
This time round, however, Pele and his team returned back ashore with the carcass of a sea turtle after he came across the turtle floating in the water.
Soon after the team returned on Benaulim shore, Pele called up the Veterinary officer to conduct post mortem examination to find out the cause behind the death of the sea turtle. “A team of veterinary doctors descended on Benaulim beach on Thursday morning and conducted the post mortem examination. We are awaiting the report of the findings”, he said, while saying the carcass was later disposed.
After rescuing the two sea turtles last month, Pele had made a fervent plea to the fishermen as well as tourists not to dispose of their fishing nets and waste in the sea.
