The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) on Tuesday decided to reduce the wharf’s length at Patto-Ribandar to 35 metres to facilitate easier docking of canoes.

The decision was made at a meeting jointly held by IPSCDL and CCP officials where the local fishermen requested to reduce the wharf length from 50 meters to 35 meters, citing operational difficulties during low tide.

“One of the key issues raised by the local fishermen pertained to the maneuverability of traditional fishing canoes during low tide. They cited challenges in entering and exiting the culvert at Patto-Ribandar due to insufficient space and strong water currents. We have thus decided to accept the request to reduce the wharf length to 35 meters,” IPSCDL CEO Sanjit Rodrigues said, in a press statement issued by the firm.

As a result of this decision, the capacity of fishing boats, initially proposed at 20, will now be reduced to 12. However, the IPSCDL said, this adjustment aligns with their commitment to prioritise the needs of the local fishing community while ensuring sustainable development.
