Ponda:
An altercation between a resident and pump operator attached to Public Works Department (PWD) Govind Gaonkar escalated when the PWD employees demanded the arrest of the assailant.
The staff and victim's family held a protest outside Ponda Police Station claiming the assault on Gaonkar was unjust over a petty water supply dispute.
The situation intensified as PWD workers threatened to halt the water supply to the entire Ponda taluka unless the accused was arrested.
While the police have acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, there's fear among residents the dispute could affect the water supply in the entire taluka.
So far, no arrest has been made.
