Hundreds of workers of a chemical manufacturing factory in Corlim protested outside the main gate on Monday to demand compensation for a deceased worker’s family who died in a mishap inside the factory.
The workers were apparently unhappy that no compensation was paid to the worker’s family, despite the death occurring four days back.
However, the agitation was called off later in the day when the compensation amount was deposited in the accounts of the family members of the deceased worker.
Speaking to reporters, one of the workers informed that the 24-year-old worker Krishna Mohan from UP died after a window slab fell on him, and then Mohan’s throat was slit as he fell on a sharp object resulting in his instant death.
“The incident occurred in the afternoon of May 16 and he is survived by a father, mother, wife and kids,” the worker said while adding that the final rites have already been conducted in the native village of UP.
It was only after the workers got a confirmation from the family members, back in UP, that the compensation was deposited in the account that the workers called off their agitation.
Later, the workers informed that they would resume work from Tuesday.
