MARGAO
They all swore that there was nothing political, but Goa Forward Chief and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai indeed played host to several politicos at his Davondem office on Tuesday.
As he went about attending to the public in the office, politicians belonging to the ruling and Opposition parties were the cynosure of public eyes as they walked inside TCP Minister’s office, though separately.
Amongst the prominent Congress leaders, who had come to see the TCP Minister were Leader of the Opposition Babu Kavlekar, followed by Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourneco. BJP leader and Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho was also spotted walking into Sardesai’s office and not to mention NCP Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao walking inside with his list of works. Former Minister Joaquim Alemao was amongst the Goa Forward leaders who were seen around.
Leader of the Opposition, Babu Kavlekar, when contacted to shed light over his presence at the Davondem office of the TCP Minister, told The Goan there was nothing political over his meeting with the TCP Minister. “Whenever I have work with the TCP Minister, I call on him. There was nothing political about my visit. I had come to see Vijai to explore the possibility of implementing the agricultural schemes in my Quepem constituency”, Kavlekar told The Goan.
Three-time Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, who has been a close friend of the TCP Minister, said his visit was purely in connection with the development works in his constituency. “I do not know why others had come to meet the TCP Minister. I had come alone to discuss about some work. I do not know the purpose behind the visit of the other politicians”, he added.
On the other hand, NCP Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao pointed out that he often pays a visit to the Vijai’s office for his development works. “I often approach the TCP Minister for my development works. This is not the first time, I am visiting his office”, Churchill said, as he hastened to add no politics was discussed with Vijai during his visit.
TCP Minister too scoffed at any speculations over the visit of these political leaders to his office. ‘Tuesday is the day when I meet the people hailing from my constituency and outside. These leaders also came with their official work and I have attended them. There was nothing political”, he asserted.
In fact, one of the political leaders, who called on the TCP Minister, while asserting there was nothing political about the meeting, wanted to know whether there can be any politics in full view of the public. “Politics is played behind the curtains. No politician will dare come with any proposal right in front of the public”, he added.
