How coveted is a trip to Goa, the land of sun, sand and sea, especially for people from the land-locked North Indian States, can be gauged from this bizarre case of a young Bhopal couple who have landed in a family court over divorce proceedings less than five months since tying the knot apparently because a promised Goa honeymoon trip failed to materialise.

Instead, a day before the trip, the husband booked flights to Varanasi and informed the wife at the eleventh hour. She went along on the trip to Ayodhya and Varanasi but on returning filed for divorce from her husband in a Bhopal family court.

The bizarre story has caught the attention of a wide range of news platforms nationally and has also gone viral on social media with journalists interviewing the lawyer Shail Awasthi, who is involved in counselling the couple.

Multiple accounts of the proceedings in the Bhopal family court reveal that the main crux of dispute was that she was angry for being taken to Ayodhya instead of the promised Goa honeymoon trip. The couple had traveled back in October last year.

According to the divorce papers, the woman has claimed that her husband is well off working in the IT sector and she too is employed earning well. So, a honeymoon trip abroad was within their means but the husband insisted on a place within the country citing his responsibilities towards his aged parents and family.

The couple then agreed to visit Goa or South India for their honeymoon but he booked air tickets to Ayodhya and Varanasi and only informed her at the eleventh hour, saying his mother wanted to visit the city before the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony.

Once they returned from the trip, the woman filed for the divorce from her husband but accounts of the proceedings reported by multiple media platforms also indicate that the husband taking more care of his family than her is also mentioned and the missed trip to Goa may not be the sole reason behind the discord among the newly weds.
