Praising the Loliem-Polem panchayat body for working to get government funds for various projects in the village, Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes said he would try to get this octroi for the Loliem-Polem panchayat.

He was speaking on completion of a protection wall to a paddy field at Dhulgal-Loliem, which was completed by MNREGA under RDA funds, in the presence of Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Sachin Naik and ex-sarpanch Ajit Lolienkar.

“The panchayat has not received octroi from the government, despite having three petrol pumps in their village. That said, the government is using the money for various development works, so Loliem-Polem panchayat’s revenue is indirectly being used for development all over the State. But I will try to get this octroi rightfully due to the Loliem-Polem panchayat,” said Fernandes.

“All panch members have worked together to understand problems in their wards and to get government funds for various projects in the village. When they encounter difficulties and bring them to my notice, I am keen to pursue their works and get them completed.”

Sarpanch Sachin Naik said farmers in the area had been facing a major challenge while cultivating paddy during the last 12 years.

“Paddy fields were getting damaged as mud from flood waters would flow into these fields every year. When the panchayat brought this problem to his notice, our MLA helped get RDA funds of Rs 1.68 lakh to build the protection wall through the MNREGA,” said Naik.

Naik thanked RDA Minister Michael Lobo, the MNREGA assistant engineer, team leader Ajay Tubki and Canacona BDO Gurudatt Naik.

Panchas Ajay Lolienkar, Shailesh Pagui and Nishant Prabhudesai were also present on the occasion.
