He said that he has already taken up the Velim Church case with the Chief Minister, who has promised to call for the file, exuding confidence that the government will take a decision before the case comes up for hearing in the South Goa Sessions Court for arguments in June next.
Vijai gave the assurance after a delegation comprising of former Velim Parish Priest Fr Romano Gonsalves and some of the accused persons called on the Minister accompanied by Goa Forward party Velim leader Anthony Rodrigues. They submitted a memorandum to Vijay highlighting the injustice done to the them by the government and how the case has affected them since the last five years.
Saying that the previous Parsekar government had committed a blunder by challenging the order of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao dropping the attempt to murder section against the 22 accused persons, Vijai expressed shock that the government moved the court for the case withdrawal, but ended up in challenging the Court order dropping the attempt to murder charge against the accused.“The new government will review this flip flop. I have spoken to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who has given me an assurance to resolve the imbroglio before the case comes up for hearing in June,” he said, while exuding confidence the Parrikar will resolve the matter at the earliest.
Vijai took the opportunity to reassure the minority community that he or the new government will do nothing against their interests. “I want to reassure the minority community that no injustice will be done to them. Don’t be scared of the changing political developments. This is a Goemkarwadi government, which will take care of all sections including the Mull Goemkar,” he said reiterating that no injustice will be done to any section of the society.
