Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju has summoned the five-day winter session of the Goa Legislative Assembly from January 12 to January 16, 2026.

The session is expected to be tense, with the opposition preparing to strongly target the BJP-led government on several issues, including the deadly Birch nightclub fire and the overall law and order situation in the State. The session will begin with the Governor’s address to the House on January 12 at 11.30 am, where the government’s agenda and priorities will be outlined. January 16 has been marked as Private Members’ Day, when non-government members will raise public issues through resolutions and legislative business.

Heated debates are expected over the nightclub fire, which claimed 25 lives and led to public anger. The incident has again raised questions about enforcement failures, illegal constructions and safety violations in the tourism and hospitality sector.

The opposition is likely to seek answers on accountability, lapses in regulation and the status of investigations, besides questioning the government’s crackdown on illegal tourism establishments.

Opposition parties are also preparing to question the government on the law and order situation, especially the reported increase in dacoity and other serious crimes in the State.
