With BJP on his mind, the newly appointed Mapusa Block President of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Adv Gautam Pednekar on Thursday said his priority would be to counter divisive forces in the State and to galvanise and offer a voice to people of Mapusa.

He also said the party would try to bring right thinking groups together in an effort to field candidates for the upcoming civic elections in Mapusa.

“Our top priority is to thwart divisive forces and those who are trying to subvert the Constitution of India. A lot of our youth are misguided with lies and falsehood on the social media. We need to counter that and stop spreading of hatred,” Pednekar said.

Adv Gautam Pednekar was addressing the media soon after the NCP State General Secretary Sanjay Barde gave him entry into the NCP and appointed him as the President of NCP Block in Mapusa.

Besides leading an active legal practice, Adv Gautam Pednekar is also the founder member of the Mapusa-based civic group Mapusa People’s Union.

Speaking further, Pednekar said NCP was the only party that gave representation to every section of the society without discrimination and upheld the tenets of the Indian Constitution.

“It’s not that I have joined NCP within a day. We have been holding discussions for the last three years,” he said.

Pednekar also felt that people of Mapusa needed a voice to express about illegalities and injustice going on in the town.

He said a council which is a local body should be autonomous with no political interference whatsoever.

NCP General Secretary Sanjay Barde informed that the party had confidence in the leadership of Adv. Gautam Pednekar and expect him to take up issues of Mapusa.

“We also want to give a message to Goa that NCP will back and offer a platform to youngsters to lead from the front,” Barde said.

He said as the NCP Block President, Pednekar will be given charge of all 20 wards in Mapusa to prepare for the civic elections.
