"There are many senior citizens visiting the sub-registrar's office, who face difficulty while climbing the stairs. I have given instructions to repair the lift and make it operational within next three months," Parrikar said.
As part of an exercise to boost infrastructure, the chief minister spent almost half a day in Mapusa meeting officials of GSIDC, PWD, TCP, JICA, etc. He was also holed up with the councilors of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) for almost an hour.
In another significant decision, the chief minister decided to finance phase-wise renovation/redevelopment of the Mapusa municipal market.
The government will fund the local civic body a total of Rs 36 crore in phases to carry out beautification and renovation of the market.
"I have given in principle approval for the development of the Mapusa market. Rs 20 crore will be sanctioned to the municipal council in the first phase," Parrikar said.
He said the council along with the market committee had to draw up a plan to finalize the project.
"If they can clear the project then by Diwali we can propose and release 50 per cent of the funds," he said.
As per the plans, one side of the main market will have a canopy. Amenities like CCTV cameras, underground cables, fire hydrants, water facility, better illumination, etc, have been proposed in the plan.
"There will be a ring road which the shop owners could use to bring in their goods. We also plan to install an ATM facility for the public in the market," said MMC Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar.
In yet another major decision, the chief minister said the government was planning to start operation of the sewerage treatment plant in Mapusa by December end.
After holding discussion with relevant departments, it was decided to repair water pipelines and roads that were damaged due to the sewerage work.
"Repair of roads will be taken up in a phased manner. Some of the roads will be taken up in the next 15 days. Others within next two to three months and some on long term... This work will be monitored by MMC chairperson," Parrikar informed.
The government has also decided to immediately grant financial approval to change two water pipelines - one in Khorlim and another in Gaunsavaddo.
The chief minister informed that there were plans to construct a separate structure to house the Sales Tax office, which will then reduce the pressure of space on the collectorate building.
Announcing a series of projects, the chief minister has given hope to a development starved city of Mapusa.
