Withdrawal of DDSSY notification condemned

MARGAO
Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has expressed shock over the government’s arbitrary decision to withdraw the notification of October 8th 2020 to treat the Coronavirus patients under DDSSY (Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana).

He said the action of withdrawing DDSSY cover for the treatment of Covid patients clearly indicates that it has been dictated by the powerful corporate private hospital lobby which has been fleecing Goemkars for many years with the exorbitant cost of treatment for all ailments including the current pandemic.

“The move is going to further worsen the situation of common Goemkars who are infected with Covid-19 and were looking to avail the facilities in private hospitals as State’s public health centres are functioning beyond their operational capacity,” he said.

“Goemkars are reluctant to go to GMC for treatment of serious ailments as they are afraid of getting infected with Covid in this only tertiary hospital because the Government has reserved few of its wards for treating serious Corona patients,” he added.

“Let us not forget that even after parroting the rhetoric “bhivpachi garaz na” (there is nothing to fear ), Goa has already accounted for 526 deaths (upto Oct 15, 2020) out of the 39,770 positive cases detected to date,” he added.
