The Curchorem Congress Block Committee and Curchorem Congress Youth Committee have petitioned the Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) to withhold the recent tender notice for waste management in the municipality till a new council is formed.
In a joint representation signed by Curchorem Congress Block Committee President Pushkal Sawant and Curchorem Youth Congress Committee Secretary Viraj Nagekar to the CCMC Chief Officer Ajay Gaude, they claimed that the tender quoted at Rs 1.92 crore was almost double the amount of Rs 1 crore quoted by the council last year.
Congress claimed the CCMC did not presently require outsourcing of waste management to private parties considering the financial crunch confronting the municipal council and since there are fewer houses and business establishments in the municipality as compared to other municipalities in the State, which manage waste disposal system on their own using existing manpower.
The representation further claims that even after having outsourced the tender for waste management, the contractor would utilise the council resources for waste disposal and as such, outsourcing waste management would not make any sense.
Congress also claimed that there is presently no council in place and as such the tender issued by the CCMC without there being a resolution holds no validity.
