Woman rescued in anti-trafficking raid

The Crime Branch (CB) rescued a woman allegedly being trafficked for prostitution and arrested a 33-year-old man during an anti-human trafficking raid near a resort in Calangute in the early hours of Wednesday.  

The accused has been identified as Punna Hari Prasad (33), a native of Telangana who is currently residing at Tambodki in Arpora.  

According to the Crime Branch, the operation was conducted between 2.06 am and 4 am on July 2 under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Jivba Dalvi, following specific intelligence about an alleged prostitution racket operating in the area. Police said the accused was caught while arriving on a black Yamaha Fascino scooter, allegedly to deliver the rescued woman to prospective customers for prostitution. An FIR has been registered and the accused has been arrested. The rescued woman has been sent to the State remand home.
