According to reports, a group of women from Durgabhat met junior engineer Sandeep Phadate in the morning to complain about water shortage affecting about 450 households in the area since the last many months.
They added that even water supplied by tankers had been a failure as the tankers failed to provide water frequently in their area.
The women also complained to Phadate that whenever they received tap water, it was muddy and could not be used for potable purposes.
“How do we live without water? This is happening since the last three months,” said a woman from Durgabhat.
Though the officer tried to pacify them, the agitated women refused to listen to him and warned of an agitation if the safe drinking water was not supplied through taps.
A short while later, another group of women from Warkhande met the junior engineer separately over a similar problem and threatened to go on hunger strike if their problem was not resolved.
They claimed that about 40 houses from Warkhande were hit by water shortage. “We are forced to go to a lone well in our area to get water, but we don’t if it is safe for drinking purposes,” said one member from the delegation.
Phadate explained to both groups that there had been a technical problem and assured that the issue would be resolved soon.
“There are many incidents of pipeline ruptures due to digging for sewerage network. There was also a problem of voltage fluctuation at the Opa Water Treatment Plant, leading to problems for the motors. We are resolving all these issues,” he said.
Sources informed that the department was planning to install Automatic Voltage Regulator, which will resolve the issue of power fluctuation.
