Former president of the State BJP Mahila Morcha Sulakshana Sawant has said women panchas can play an important role in Swayampurna Goem by carrying out development in their wards.
She was speaking at Pilerne at a programme organised by Pilerne-Marra Panchayat on International Women’s Day to felicitate 20 women panchas of Saligao constituency. Others present included Saligao MLA Kedar Naik, Sarpanch Reshma Bandodkar, Dy Sarpanch Amarnath Govekar and ZP member Sandeep Bandodkar.
“Various government departments have formulated various schemes for the benefit of people. Elected women panchas can create awareness of these schemes among residents in their wards and assist them to avail the benefits,” said Sawant.
“Women panchas should learn about various provisions of the Panchayat Raj and improve the administration of their panchayats. They should also assist the MLA of their constituency to discharge his duties successfully.”
Saligao MLA Kedar Naik said the main objective of celebrating Women’s Day is to appreciate the remarkable contribution made by women in society.
“Women have excelled in every field of activity but they have not been treated on par with men. A woman is the epitome of love, sacrifice, care and ability to nurture life. It is high time that society recognises the importance of women in society and grants them equal status in all fields of activities,” said Naik.
Earlier, Pilerne-Marra Sarpanch Reshma Bandodkar welcomed the gathering. Later, 20 women panchas of various panchayats in Saligao constituency were felicitated by MLA Kedar Naik.
