Siolim constituency tops the list with 82.46 percent

Women voters came out to vote in large numbers, registering an impressive overall poll percentage of 82 percent, leaving the men behind in all the seven assembly constituencies in Bardez.
The total turnout for Bardez stands at a record 80.36 percent with 1,49,304 voters casting their ballot. Men accounted for 71,574 voters (78%) while women made up 77,730 (82%).
Tivim saw 84 percent women come out to vote. The men here polled a little over 81 percent votes. Similarly, women in Saligao registered a turnout of a little over 81 percent. In Siolim, which recorded the highest overall turnout of 82.46 percent, women can be credited for performing phenomenally by registering a turnout of a little over 84 percent. The turnout for men here was 80 percent.
In the other four constituencies, the women inched ahead of men in terms of voter turnout, including Mapusa, Calangute, Porvorim and Aldona.
In Mapusa, 79 percent of women voters came out to vote outnumbering the men who clocked 77 percent.
Interestingly, many areas in Mapusa comprise illegal migrant colonies and low income settlements.
In six constituencies, women voting were 80 percent and above except for Mapusa which registered 79 percent.
In many constituencies, BJP supporters are upbeat that high percentage of women coming out to vote would definitely benefit the party.
“We are sure that women voters will stand by us. Women voters are devoted and will not waiver. And the schemes delivered by the BJP has struck a chord among the women,” a senior BJP member said.
But the opposition begged to differ saying that BJP’s arrogance will lead to their defeat.
“Women voters may be loyal but women in Goa are well educated and can take their own decisions. They have seen how BJP has used the schemes as a carrot to force them to come for their meetings,” an opposition member said.
