Even as the collapse of the chajja at the Hospicio annex building raised questions on the structural stability, wooden poles supporting a slab of a window has come to light on the building ground floor after the incident.
This has only thrown up a host of questions, one, when were the wooden poles installed to support the window slab and who had taken the decision to use the wooden poles.
PWD officials feigned ignorance over the use of wooden poles found installed on a window on the building ground floor, which had in the recent past housed the blood bank.
Former Margao Municipal Chairperson and covenor of City-based NGO Shadow Council for Margao, Savio Coutinho has called for a structural stability test of the annex building to ensure the building is safe for occupation. “It’s fortunate that no one was injured in the incident. But, it’s clear that the building is craving for attention for want of maintenance”, he said.
He added: “Instead of supporting the window slab with the wooden poles, it is prudent the authorities check the stability of the building”.
