Work on the first cricket ground at Mudder-Kharrem in Socorro village was launched on Saturday.
Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte unveiled the foundation stone for the cricket ground, which is being developed on 16,500 sq. mtrs of land at a cost of about Rs 10 crore, in the presence of Socorro Sarpanch Soniya Pednekar, Dy Sarpanch Maya Keni, President of BJP Mandal Kishor Asnodkar, panch members and locals.
Khaunte said he was happy that the foundation stone for the development of ground at Mudder“Kharem had been laid on Saturday after clearing all hurdles.
“In the first phase, levelling of the ground will be done and compound wall will be constructed at a cost of Rs 3.52 crore. This work is expected to be completed by February 2024. The construction of a community hall, wash rooms, pavillions, etc. will be constructed in the second phase” said Khaunte.
He informed that maintenance of the ground will be managed by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Khaunte said there had been a long-pending demand of locals to develop this ground for the benefit of the youth.
“The Serula communidade has offered this land for the development of cricket ground. There will two pitches, one for tennis ball and second for season ball,” he said.
The minister also stated that work on the multi-purpose sports complex at Socorro is nearing completion.
“Work on the interior decoration of the sports complex will be tendered next week and it will be completed by March 2024.
