Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho laid the foundation stone for work on a Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter (MCS) in Zuarinagar area of Sancoale and said the premises would also have sub-office of Sancoale panchayat for the benefit of people.
Godinho laid the foundation stone for the MCS in the presence of Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, Sancoale Sarapnch Ramakant Borker, ZP member Anita Thorat and other panch members on the occasion of the birthday of Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borker.
“The MCS, to be built at a cost of around Rs 4.5 crore and completed within a year, will provide shelter to people affected by cyclones and other natural calamities. A similar facility will be built in Cuelim.”
“We have requested authorities to have a Panchayat sub-office here so that they can function from here at least once a week for the benefit of people in the area. We may have other sub-offices in the shelter house," said Godinho.
Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borker told reporters said the road would also be widened from MES College junction to MES College and all encroachments would be cleared along the roads.
"While some may question Godinho’s interference in Cortalim constituency, we want to clarify that the Sancoale panchayat was united in requesting Godinho for assistance in development works because there was no development in this constituency," said Borker.
