At long last, rumbler strips and zebra crossing will be seen on the NH-17 at the accident-prone area at the Sirlim traffic junction.
Months after the local residents urged the authorities to install rumbler strips at Sirlim near the bakery in view of the number of accidents at the spot, the highway officials on Wednesday started work on Wednesday at the accident-prone zone.
The local residents had earlier petitioned the Dramapur-Sirlim panchayat and the local MLA Filipe Neri Rodrigues to take up the issue with the national highways authority as a number of lives were lost at the spot. Social activist and a local resident Dominic Noronha told the media that the
residents are grateful to the National Highway authorities for undertaking work on the rumblers and zebra crossing.
He said the local MLA Filipe Neri Rodrigues took up the matter with the National Highways authority after the local residents approached him in view of the rising number of accidents at the spot.
“The continuous efforts of the MLA and the proposal forwarded by the village panchayat has finally paid off with the commencement of the work on the rumblers and zebra crossing, which will go a long way in addressing the issue,” Domnick said.
