Taking strong exception to levelling work of the historic Rajbid road at Kadamba Plateau with the use of mud, AAP leader Prof Ramrao Wagh has demanded that the work should be immediately halted and the mud dumped along the half kilometre stretch removed.

Speaking to reporters, Prof Wagh pointed out that the Rajbid road is a 11th century road which was used as a link road between Gopakapattan port in Goa Velha and Old Goa, for the purpose of trading.

“The road, which is almost 12 mtrs wide, runs through a forested area and it has a rocky surface,” Wagh informed.

He then pointed out that since the past several days activity of levelling the road has been noticed with the dumping of mud, which is a threat to the historic road.

“Such clandestine activity is probably undertaken to help those who have brought properties near the Rajbid road,” Wagh suspected and stated that once the levelling work is completed then hotmixing will follow just like it was done several years back in the portion falling under Old Goa.

“This cannot be allowed to happen as it will lead to concretisation of the area which consists of forested and orchard areas,” Wagh said while stating that it is not known for sure who is undertaking the activity.

“Prima facie, it is clear that this is an attempt to level the road to pave way for hotmixing in the future,” he stated and informed that he will write to the various authorities to hold inspection and stop the activity.

“I will complain to the Collector, TCP department, Archaeology department and other authorities so that an inspection is held and the activity stopped,” Prof Wagh added.
