In a late-night operation, Vasco Police apprehended a youth and seized 1.05 kg of suspected ganja worth approximately Rs 1.05 lakh near Shantinagar, Vasco.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Gomsy Swami (21) of Shantinagar, Vasco. The action was carried out between 1.52 am and 3.47 am on August 7.
Police said a team led by PSI Nikhil Naik Dessai, noticed Swami behaving suspiciously near an auto garage shed while the police team was returning from official duty.
On noticing the police, the accused allegedly attempted to flee, following which he was detained.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of a polythene bag containing 1.05 kg of dry greenish leafy substance, including stems and flowering and fruiting parts, emitting an intoxicating odour and suspected to be ganja. The seized substance, is valued at approximately Rs 1,05,000.
Vasco Police have registered an offence under the NDPS Act. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Akanksh Fadte Dessai of Vasco Police Station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
