A youth was killed while another person was injured when two motorcycles collided with each other on the Honda-Valpoi road near the Kumarkhand Junction on Thursday.
A pickup carrying LPG cylinders also met with an accident after the driver tried to avoid a collision with the fallen motorcycles.
According to reports, the mishap took place as Dattaprasad Pundalik Gaonkar (19) of Saleli-Sattari was proceeding on a motorcycle from Honda towards Valpoi, while the other motorcycle was travelling in the opposite direction.
Gaonkar sustained serious injuries in the mishap and was rushed to the Sankhali Community Health Centre (CMC), where he was declared dead on arrival. The other rider sustained minor injuries in the mishap.
A pickup was carrying LPG cylinders from Valpoi to Honda and the driver slammed the brakes to avoid colliding with the fallen motorcycles. The pickup toppled but the driver escaped unhurt and there was no damage to the cylinders.
A Valpoi police team conducted investigations at the site and later handed the body to relatives after an autopsy.
Gaonkar was studying at the ITI in Honda and he was an ex-student of Government High School in Bhuipal-Sattari.
