If the fine of Rs 25,000 is realised from the accused, the same shall be reimbursed to the victim’s father,
court said.
The court also sentenced the accused to undergo rigorous imprisonment for five years for robbery and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 and in default to undergo two months of RI.
It may be recalled that the murder had occurred at Chicalim-Vasco in August 2010 and the accused, Snehal Dias, was arrested after a month of the incident. He was 19-years-old when he committed the crime.
The accused had committed the murder with a knife. After murdering the victim, the accused had committed the theft of laptop, mobile phone, foreign currency, camera, hard disk and other items. The accused had also fled with the victim’s car.
Charges against the accused under Section 302 (murder) and Section 392 (robbery) were framed in the Session Court at Margao.
Public Prosecutor, Subhash Dessai conducted the trial of the case since 2010 and examined 54 witnesses.
Advocate Anacleto Viegas represented the accused.
The Additional Sessions, Judge, P V Sawaikar while delivering the judgement, observed that the chemical analysis of the blood found on the spot of crime matched with that of the accused.
It was also established that during the same period, the accused had sustained injuries to his hands and he failed to explain the reasons for his injuries. Also, some of the stolen articles were recovered at the instance of the accused. Then Police Inspector, Braz Menezes had investigated the case under the supervision of DySP,
