Sattari Deputy Collector Laxmikant Kurtikar has urged young people who have become eligible to vote for the first time to register their names on the electoral roll and actively participate in the democratic process.
He was addressing a special youth voter awareness and registration drive organised at Shri Bhumika Higher Secondary School, Poriem, with the participation of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from polling parts 1 to 19.
The campaign was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Deputy Collector Laxmikant Kurtikar. School Principal Ratnadeep Verekar, teaching staff, officials and Booth Level Officers were present on the occasion.
“The right to vote is not merely a right but also an important responsibility of every citizen in a democracy. Young people are an important part of the country’s democratic process and must therefore exercise their right to vote responsibly,” Kurtikar said.
Explaining the importance of voter registration and the procedures involved, Kurtikar urged eligible young people to verify whether their names were included in the electoral roll.
Those whose names were missing were advised to register as new voters, while those requiring changes to their names, addresses or other details were advised to complete the necessary correction process.
During the campaign, students received practical guidance on registering as new voters. Detailed information was provided on filling in Form 6, the documents required and the procedure for submitting applications online.
Students were also guided on using the Voter Services Portal and the Voter Helpline mobile application. Information was provided on the procedures for correcting names, addresses and other details in the electoral roll.
Students’ queries regarding voter registration were also addressed during the programme.
Meanwhile, a similar youth voter awareness and registration drive was conducted at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Honda. The programme was attended by the institute’s principal, teaching staff and Booth Level Officers from the areas concerned.
A large number of eligible students participated in the campaign and received information on registering as new voters. They were guided on both online and offline voter registration procedures.
During both campaigns, Booth Level Officers, principals, teachers and other officials assisted the students under the guidance of Deputy Collector Laxmikant Kurtikar.
