Yuri assures to revive projects executed during dad's term

Slams Joaquim’s successors for poor state of affairs of projects

MARGAO
Newly-elected Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao has on Saturday vowed to revive all the projects executed in the Cuncolim Municipal area during the tenure of his father, Joaquim Alemao, including the freedom fighter’s memorial park near the Cuncolim bus stand.

While reminding that his father had brought a slew of public utility projects in Cuncolim during his stint as Cuncolim MLA between 2002-12, Yuri slammed Joaquim’s successors for the state of affairs of the projects, including the freedom fighters memorial put in place to honour the freedom fighters for their sacrifices during the Liberation movement.

“Cuncolim is a land of freedom fighters. This place has a historic significance. A slew of projects were implemented in Cuncolim during the tenure of Joaquim Alemao, but were left without maintenance in the last 10 years. It will be my endeavour to restore the projects, including the freedom fighter’s memorial to its glory," he said after an inspection with Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Laximan Naik, councillors, engineers and consultants and local residents.

On the agenda of the newly-elected MLA is to renovate the freedom fighter’s memorial and give it a facelift to restore its glory. The MLA also inspected the Cuncolim commercial market which has been plagued by a host of issues for want of maintenance.

When Yuri descended in the market to gather firsthand information on the state of affairs, he was greeted by vendors, who complained of unauthorised vendors making business outside the market premises. “The market complex is suffering because of drainage and sanitation issues. We will address the issues at the earliest," he added.

Inspecting the municipal hall, which has not been put to its optimum use over issues concerning air-conditioning, Yuri has promised to rope in a consultant to find out how best to address the issue of air-conditioning at the municipal hall.

Turning to the indoor stadium at Madicotto, the MLA said the stadium was a beautiful concept put in by renowned architect and consultant Rahul Deshpande, but the stadium is lying in a bad shape with the roof damaged.

“The Cuncolim bus stop is in a bad shape. We will take up the bus stand on top priority. My two predecessors did not take interest in maintaining these projects resulting in the present state of affairs," he said, promising to revive these projects in a time bound manner.
