‘GFP MLAs will support any resolution against coal: Vijai

MARGAO
Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai has said his party MLAs will support any resolution that would totally stop coal handling in the State, saying that the party is not only concerned about the adverse effects on tourism, but on the environment as well as the health of Goans.

“The Goa Forward party has tabled a resolution for the scrapping of the linear projects. BJP MLA Alina Saldanha and Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat has also tabled questions on coal and the linear projects. If the government is sincere in capping coal, it can very well take a decision on the floor of the House to stop coal handling at the MPT,” he said.

Saying a cruise terminal at the MPT will give a big boost to tourism in the State, Sardesai requested Churchill to impress upon Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to get a resolution passed against coal in the ensuing session. “We want a total stop to coal handling at the MPT. Capping or imposing ceiling on coal will not solve the problem, because we don’t trust this government at all,” Sardesai added.
