‘Vigyan Setu’ to boost science edu in govt primary schools

PANAJI

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday launched Vigyan Setu, a science education programme designed to spark curiosity and innovation among students in government primary schools.

The government first introduced this initiative as a pilot project in schools in Tiswadi taluka. After seeing positive results, it now plans to expand the programme to all schools from the next academic year.

Speaking at the event, Sawant said the project has shown great promise and will soon reach all schools. He stressed the importance of developing a scientific mindset among students and inspiring the country’s future scientists.

Vigyan Setu connects government primary schools with high schools in Tiswadi, blending modern science with India’s traditional knowledge. Students learn scientific ideas through engaging activities such as Vidyan Geet, Vidyan Katha, Vidyan Paheli, Vidyan Vichar, Vidyan Charcha, and Vidyan Khed. The programme has also set up a special learning space called Vidyan Corner, which is expected to grow into Vigyan Kendras in the future.

Teachers will conduct simple science experiments linked to daily life, helping students understand how science applies to the real world. The programme will also introduce basic ideas from Yog, Ayurveda, and Vedic Mathematics, while highlighting the contributions of ancient Indian scientists like Aryabhatta, Bhaskara, and Sushruta. This aims to instil pride in India’s scientific heritage.

Praising the hard work of Vigyan Mitra teachers and students, Sawant said, “The dedication of our teachers and the innovative thinking of students and their parents prove that these young minds have the potential to become doctors, engineers, and scientists of tomorrow. With Vigyan Setu, we are laying the foundation for a scientifically progressive society.”

The Chief Minister also congratulated two Goan students, Atharva Nilesh Surlakar and Farhan Rashid Sheikh, who have been selected to present their projects at an international science exhibition in Japan this June. He called it a proud moment for the State.
