Thirty-one underweight cylinders were seized during a surprise inspection by the office of Inspector Legal Metrology, Vasco, at a gas agency in Cortalim. The raid, led by Inspector Liladhar Kumbharjuvekar and his team, revealed significant discrepancies in the weight of LPG domestic cylinders meant for delivery to retail consumers.
Upon checking the weight of 53 LPG domestic cylinders with a net weight requirement of 14.2 kg, 31 cylinders were found to be underweight. The shortfall ranged from approximately 750 grams to 1.8 kg, far exceeding the Maximum Permissible Error of 150 gms.
The underweight cylinders, intended for consumer use, were immediately seized by the inspection team. The operation was carried out by Inspector Kumbharjuvekar, supported by staff members Keval Desai, Euzebio Gomes, Damodar Pauskar, and Ratnakar Phaldesai.
Legal action will be initiated against the agency as per the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, ensuring consumer protection and preventing further malpractice.
